Bio Poem

This is a bio poem I made on myself. I started out just typing it normally, but then I spaced all of my lines and colored them. Parts of making this was difficult because sometimes it is hard to think of only two people you aspire to be. However this was a fun poem to make.

The Giver

In my English class we read a book called the giver. We all then wrote an essay about whatever we wanted and I chose to write about the Giver because it was such a good book. This is the final copy of it.

The Giver
By: Abby Meyer 7A

No fear, no pain, and no war, how, where? Was it in the past, the present, or the future? It can be any of them. How can you transmit memories from person to person by putting your hand on their back? Is any of this possible, or is it reality? Well, this is the Giver, the impossible, yet a possible tale of a boy named Jonas and a tedious trip to the unknown.
The Giver was the past receiver of memories. He deals with the pain, the fear, the depression, the sorrow so nobody else would. The Giver must live with it all for the rest of his life. He makes the biggest decisions. However if the pain was not enough, he could not live his life, he could not talk about even the greatest of memories to his wife. His daughter even killed herself because she got some of the memories and became depressed. He also aged even faster because he was carrying with so much stress. He was carrying the stress so the community would not have true pain, sorrow, war, fear, or war.
The story could have taken place either in the past or present. The reason for the chance of it taking place in the past is that they don’t have a lot of the same technology as we do nowadays, they don’t even have cars. However it could be the future because they have new technology that we do not have such as the ability to make people color blind. This thought really confuses me because the community has high technology while they do not have some of the things that we have today, so I think that this story is simply in the presence because it is half pas, and half future.
Obviously, a lot of the Giver is completely impossible like the machine controlling the weather.  In spite of those few things the actual way of community is similar to real life. One of the things in the story that could relate to this story is the government does not tell a lot of things that they do. Also the type of government that they have in the community is communism. The reason for that is all of the people in the Giver are very controlled. They have to wait until a certain age to get a bicycle and they can only have two children; one girl and one boy.
In conclusion, the Giver is set in a communism like government. Also nobody can really know for sure what time period it is in. And the job that keeps the community sane is all taken by one person. The Giver is one of the most impossible books that are also like reality.

Biggest Role Model

I have many different role models, but I would have to say my biggest role model would have to be my grandmother, Beverly M. That is because, she was a mentor to many other people, and in other words, she was a teacher. She taught fifth grade. Also she saw the world. She went to so many places, for example she went to Ireland where she kissed the Blarney Stone which I did when I went to Ireland. Another thing she did was she fought Parkinson’s disease. So you can see, my grandmother is and will ever be my biggest role model.

Define a “Hero”; Who is Yours
The word “Hero” means something different to everybody, some people think that it is someone who got special powers and becomes a superhero.  However to me it means someone who would do anything for a good cause. The first person I thought of was George Washington. That is because he created a country.  He fought for what he believed in, he would not take no as an answer. He was America’s first president. If he was never our president our whole life could have been totally different for the better, or for the worse. My hero for the rest of time is George Washington.
A Moment in my Childhood
A memory I have of my childhood is when I lost my very first tooth. I know that a lot of people lose their teeth when they are five years old, but I lost mine when I was seven and a half. My second grade class was combined with first grade, and I was still the last one to lose their first tooth. I was really excited when my tooth started to wiggle, so I wiggled it and wiggled it. Finally, I pulled it out while I was watching a movie, and I was so proud that I had lost my first tooth. I pulled out many other teeth after that.
Something you would like to Change about yourself
I really like my life now, but if I were able to change one thing in my life it would be my height. I would like to be taller. I know I am not that small, but I think it would give me an advantage in life. I would be able to reach high objects without having to use a stepping stool. Also I would be able to walk faster because my legs would be longer. Another thing it would help with is jogging. I conclusion, it wouldn’t be such a bad thing if I were a few inches taller.
What are you Trying to get Better at this Year
There are many things I have to improve on, but if I had to choose one I would chose getting better at soccer.  I want to be able to sprint up the field with the ball and not have to abate my speed because of opponents. Also I want to work on my ball skills, such as faking the ball away from the people trying to steal it. Another thing that I would like to improve on is to get better with my left foot because, it is a skill that is very important. This year I want to get better at soccer.

Some helpful Games

I found two great sites that can help a lot. This first site has three different levels easy, medium, and hard, and that is what I like about it, and it also gives you definitions. The second site is for sentence structure, and it is a bit more of a game. http://www.learnenglish.de/Games/DingThings/dingthing36.html http://www.englishgamezone.com/flash-arcade-game.php?gameid=34320

My Aims for this year

The last school year in my point of view was great, but there are still some things I need to improve. First of all, I want to get better in punctuation. Punctuation has never been my strong suit. Another thing that I want to work on is, I want to be able to move quickly, but neatly in my homework. Lastly, I want to learn to write cursive quickly and neatly. I know how to do it, but just not quickly. I know that the solution to all of these problems is simply a lot of hard work.

P.S.A. Reflection

A Public Service Announcement or P.S.A is an announcement that is for the good of the public. I made one to join the troops. I think it was very good because I used all of the factors you needed in it. You need; Where, when, why, what, and how. You need something catchy that stays in their heads. For, example; All together we CAN make a difference. I thought the presentation itself was good but I rushed making it so the first one was not so good when I first presented, but I fixed it presented it again and it was all good. I thought that “To join the troops” was a great cause and a P.S.A. Even if you do not want to be in as much danger you have many different options. Those are the reasons why joining the troops are a good P.S.A.  If I did this again I would have taken more time making the first one.

How can public service announcements make a difference

Public Service announcements or P.S.A is an announcement for the good of the community. They can be things like, join the troops, clean your town, or to stop smoking. I think that P.S.A. makes a huge difference. They can save lives because, many people smoke but if they saw a public service announcement to stop smoking, they might just quite. Also a good P.S.A. is to join the troops because lives can be saved. P.S.A. announcements are not just for your own use it is also for the world. Like stop polluting or save the animals. So as you can see, public service announcement can make big differences.
